Ayla Hatun, or, Lady Ayla, is Mustafa Ali’s beautiful cousin and a leader of the rebel band known as the Ottoman Corsairs. Wily and resourceful, Ayla isn’t know for running into battle, but when Adrian needs information on activities in the Ottoman quarter of Civitate Dei, she proves an indispensable ally.

Today is the 100th anniversary of JFK’s birth.
Normally you won’t find politicians’ images or videos on this site, but, in light of the poignancy and boldness of this speech, and the impact it has had on all of us who are inspired when we look at the stars, I thought it appropriate to share the full version of the famous address given at Rice University on September 12, 1962.

Part 1: The Past is Prologue
Why did you choose to juxtapose the Medieval, fractured, quasi-feudal empires of The White Light of Tomorrow with advanced technology left over from the ‘Apex’ of mankind’s scientific achievement?
The answer, of course, is that knights with armor and swords are cool, and spaceships are cool, so put them together, damn it!
Sister Mary Frances, from the convent of the Daughters of Our Lady of Sorrows, is one of many opponents our heroes face in The White Light of Tomorrow. She rises above the rest, though, in being the smartest, deadliest, and by far the most unstable.
Adrian of Tarsus is a Knight Hospitaler in the service of the Universal Church. Having seen his share of war and crusade, he now serves his Order and his Pope as the Militium Publicanus–military tax collector–aboard Mustafa Ali Pasha’s trading ship, the Miranda. It would be an easy life, were it not for Mustafa’s eccentricities and Adrian’s ever more desperate need to find a cure for his daughter Mariel’s strange affliction.
Mariel is Adrian of Tarsus’ adopted daughter and squire. Brash and inquisitive, she has a knack for slaughtering Adrian’s sacred cows. As the daughter of a knight, her prowess with arms is not to be underestimated, but her true potential lies undiscovered. And it will remain undiscovered unless Adrian can unlock the clues to her past and save her life.
Sabine Isolde Adler is the owner and operator of the Bee’s Knees public house in Christendom’s capitol city, Civitate Dei. A prim and proper churchgoer by day, at night she runs a thriving underground trade in banned Machina, and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty…or bloody…in the process.
